meet jon...

G: Hey Jon! Please introduce yourself and let us know what your work/art practice is.

J: My name is Jonathan Jacob, JJ, Jonny, Jonny Denim, J or Jon from MIZB (Made In Zaida’s Basement). I make handmade jewelry and leather goods. My designs are available at Danali Clothing, where I’ve worked since 1996. Along with sales to the most amazing clients, I also do some of the in house tailoring at Danali.

G: Is there a specific project that you're currently working on, or that you're particularly excited about?

J: Currently, on my jewellers bench, I have been given the honour to design and make a two part custom engagement band and wedding band. I’m creating two bands for the groom, one that will have a black diamond set into hand-forged sterling silver and a white diamond set into a hand-forged 18k gold band. Once he’s married the two separate bands are soldered together to become one. I’m extremely excited about this design, in fact a little jealous.

G: In the spirit of supporting local businesses and artists, please let us know your thoughts on the following...

-What's your favourite restaurant/cocktail bar to visit in Winnipeg?

J: Yujiro is a favourite restaurant for my family. Chef Edward is extremely talented. We love to experience his unique flavours and textures. We also love to visit the Hargrave Street Market for its energy and aesthetics.

-What's your favourite activity/experience/place to hangout in the city?

J: My wife Beth and I recently took a pottery class at The Pottery Bug Studio! We enjoyed this experience so much that we decided to do it as a whole family and bring our 8 year old twin boys. We have signed up for multiple classes as we all love working with our hands.

Thank you so much, Jon!
