Meet Eric!

Hey Eric! Please introduce yourself and let us know what your work/art practice is. Is there a specific title that you prefer?

I think that the title "Visual Artist" or just "Artist" works for me! I make screen printed artworks on paper, for which i hand-pull the screen prints out of my home studio. However, I am also known for my larger acrylic works on wood panel, which consist of a few different techniques. Over the years I have made several Winnipeg/Manitoba themed pieces, and these can be found in private and public collections alike.

Is there a specific project that you're currently working on, or that you're particularly excited about? Tell us everything about it!

Right now I’m working on a series of large panels that will be hung in the front lobby of the Fairmont Hotel in Winnipeg! The hotel already has a large collection of my screen prints in the Velvet Glove lounge and I am looking forward to introducing my larger acrylics this June.  I’m looking forward to having my work greet the guests as they walk into the hotel. The themes will involve downtown Winnipeg at night and feature familiar architecture.

What do you want fans/clients to know about how to access your work?

My website is ericouimet.com and features all the pieces currently available to purchase. My work is also available through some local galleries : Mayberry Fine Art, Pulse Gallery at the forks, Sigvaldason Fine Art in Gimli and Canvas Gallery in Toronto. For those who have visited the new Earls/OEB at 300 Main, might recognize my giant Yoyo piece “Pulling Strings” in the front lobby. I have also released 2 books of my work. Although the first one is sold out, the second book is still available on my site and at select local galleries/bookstores.

What's your favourite restaurant/cocktail bar to visit in Winnipeg?

Favourite restaurant is a tough one, so many great Winnipeg establishments! But if I have to pick, my husband and I love Parcel Pizza. As for a cocktail (and bite), and we love the vibe at the Oval Room Brasserie.  A shout out to Nonsuch Brewing as well for both food and drink.

What's your favourite activy or place to hang out in the city?

My favourite hangout spot is easily the Forks. I love everything it has to offer and it's always a great place to relax.

Is there anywhere in the city that you're excited to visit or participate in for the first time this summer?

We are excited to try out BabyBaby in Osborne Village, we’ve heard great things and are pumped to try it out.
